Judge report

First of all I would like to compliment the show committee on a job well done, and express my gratitude to The Czech Republic Bobtail Club for the opportunity to judge their wonderful dogs. I wish to thank my ring stewards, Miki Kindl and Karel Makovec who were extraordinary in their guidance and efficiency. Their language skills and good humor were invaluable throughout the day.
Visiting The Czech Republic was a highlight among my lifetime travels and I was in awe the entire trip. The architecture alone is some of the most fabulous I've ever seen. While in Prague I was treated to a beautiful classical concert which remains with me now as I drive to and from work. The following day Jaroslav Zelinger picked me up and we began our journey to Valtice. The drive was spectacular, my eyes were filled with magnificent mountains and lush green trees throughout our journey. Several hours later we arrived at our destination which was a sight to behold. The glorious castle before me was not only my hotel but also the show site. Later on, as I walked through the castle halls my mind wandered and I could not help but imagine the history that had taken place and tales the old walls might hold - so enchanting.
The show itself was held in the garden area of the Castle - such unique grounds and just perfect for the show!!! Following the judging on Saturday a dinner was held in a fascinating banquet facility which I believe was part of the old wine cellar. I was delighted to find that our dinner consisted of delicious, traditional Czech cuisine. Fabulous and almost unexplainable entertainment topped off the evening. I thank the energetic Petra Spoustova who made possible an event filled with such song, dance and great humor. The laughter and fun of this evening provided the opportunity to socialize and make new friends, adding to an unforgettable Bobtail experience. A thousand times, Thank You - I loved every minute.

Now, I would like to express my appreciation to all who showed to me, it was such a pleasure to judge your lovely dogs. It was good to find such crisp, clear coats, - sadly these are rare in my country and something we need to work towards. Dentition was first-rate over all which was nice to see. A number of the rears were a bit too friendly behind, especially in the dog classes. For my taste several of the bitches were a bit coarse, a big girl is fine, however she must be obviously feminine to the eye. One thing for all in our breed to aspire for, in your country and mine is proper topline, it is not found often enough.
Conditioning was my main disappointment: Several dogs were still matted and/or unwashed when presented for judging, and a number were not conditioned for the show ring. Fine presentation requires a clean, well groomed, well trained dog in excellent physical condition. Along with the above, handling needs mentioning. Nearly half of the dogs were shown to their best advantage and were very competitive, however the rest need practice and an education on showmanship. It is always good to work with a respected and sincere mentor, perhaps practice in front of a mirror and be sure to take note of the presentation of the consistant winners.
My Winners Bitch caught my eye the second she entered the ring. Possessing good type, soundness and very pretty carriage she was hard to resist. Shown very nicely by her owner, she was overall impressive. I only wished for better bloom. She was sparkling and it was indeed a pleasure to judge her.
My Winners Dog was exceptional - a stand out in my view. He exuded beautiful Bobtail breed type and was in glorious condition. His side movement took my breath away and he was handled to perfection. My sincere congratulations to the breeders and owners of this lovely young dog. I believe he will have a great future. He became my Best Of Breed and ultimately Best In Show.
A special thank you to the gentleman of gentlemen, Jaroslav Zelinger, one more thank you to the charismatic Petra Spousetova and a sincere thank you to Karolina Morrison for her never ending kindness throughout the weekend.

My memories of this amazing experience will last a lifetime.

Notice for those interested in bobtail puppies When choosing your bobtail make sure that puppies are from an FCI kennel. There are organizations that issue their own kind of "pedigree". However, these "pedigrees" are not FCI, and a puppy from such kennel is for us the same as a puppy without a Pedigree. An example of these organisations are UCI or INTERNATIONALER RASSEHUNDE VERBAND E.V.
